There has been many talks about the PlayStation 4, what kind of deals on PlayStation 4 are we going to see, what kind of design, what are the memory and graphics going to be like? This article is going to talk a bit about what is rumored dealing with these aspects.
First off, we are not sure at this point if PlayStation 4 (PS4) is going to be a continuation of PS3 with improved features, or a completely new design and console with unique features. At this point it is in agreement that most people want to see a new chipset, an additional power supply (to reduce the size and help cooling capabilities), a new hard disk, and new & improved graphics processor.
As far as improvements from the PlayStation 3 to PlayStation 4, among the main recommended one from the developer side is the memory split. PS3 runs memory divided between the graphics and application, which can severely limit the developers freedom to. It is recommended that this be fixed to give the developers the edge and freedom to design, and it will also help with game load time.
Graphics processors play a huge role in the development and capabilities of gaming consoles, while PS3 has done well with the Nvidia GP, there is speculation that Sony may be going with a new graphics processor for the PlayStation 4. After all, most it is rumored that the PS4 will have a much larger hard disk, and will have much more availability to download and store various items.
As with many of the rumors and articles across the internet it has been hypothesized that the PS4 Blu-Ray combo may not exist. The missing Blu-Ray would help gamers save money because after all, Blu-Ray is among the top 3 most expensive parts of the PlayStation 3. Here is another reason it is rumored that Sony will be dropping the Blu-Ray (from Acclaims Dave Perry):
“Because of the cost of making the PlayStation 3 and because they sold it at a loss, Sony basically has pretty much no chance of making money on the PS3, because it’s lost more money than they made during the entire peak of the PlayStation 2 - it’s not going to happen again for Sony.”
With the Blu-Ray out Sony could potentially be competitive again in the next generation of consoles such as the PS4, rumored Xbox 720, and Wii2. They would be able to slash prices on the mark to keep pricing competitive, they would be able to offer more storage room and load time, with everything going straight to download and less than 50% of America even knowing what Blu-Ray is it won’t be the main deciding factor for purchases in the future.

Yea i know its 2009 and I still dont have either one lol. I been in college so pretty busy but now that I got a summer job i got a little spending money that I want to spend on either a XBOX 360 OR PS3. I have read many articles about this and all of them pretty say it depends no what you like and your situation so here is what i like and my situation. I would like to hear any and all opinions. Thanks.
1. I DON’T care about the Blue-ray player at ALL i dont watch too many movies if any.
2. For the past year i have been playing my roommate’s xbox 360 for a whole year, thus i played HALO 3 and gears of wars 2 numerous times and beat both games that i dont want to play them anymore. I DO NOT care about these so called “exclusive games mentioned above on the xbox 360 that are so popular.
3. I know its late and its 2009 and these systems have been out a couple of years now. I also have heard rumors on the web (true or not) that Microsoft will be realeasing a new xbox (xbox 720 or somethin..) in the near future like in 2010 or 2011. I do not want to waste money on a xbox 360 if it will just be usless in 1-2 years.
4. I like online gaming. I DO NOT care about paying for xbox live its not that much (50/yr). However, most of my friends have a xbox 360 and play call of duty 4 or 5 and I would like to play with them. However, if i dont its not the end of the world. Its just a plus.
5. I DO NOT care about paying more for ps3 upfront. 100 dollars is not a big deal in the long run.

I am leaning more towards xbox 360 just because so many of my friends have it and play it. I really want to play the new cod4 modern warefare 2 when it comes out w/ my friends.
However the thing holding me back is the fact that a new xbox might come out soon. Does anyone know anything about the new xbox 720?? and when its supposed to come out etc…
Also I know that sony said they will back up ps3 for a minumium of 10 yrs so that they probably wont come out with a new playstation system anytime soon, however, microsoft might come out with a new xbox soon. thats what im worried about.

Alright, i already have a ps3, but i would like to have an xbox 360. But i was wondering if the xbox 360 is worth it in 2009. i mean, is there going to be the xbox 720 or ps4 soon? I don’t know if it is the right time to purchase a console. Please help, and feel free to give opinions. Thank you!

The news is all over the Internet, but it doesn’t make any sense. I’m pretty sure the companies are already thinking ahead. But, why would they release new game consoles when two of the three (the PS3 and Xbox 360) aren’t even profitable yet?
*I understand if Nintendo is already working on a Wii 2 because the Wii is already profitable and Nintendo might want to beat Microsoft and Sony to the market with the next generation of consoles.
