ive herd that the new xbox 720 is coming in 2012 is that true?

Reading up I heard that the 360 has the slight edge over a PS3 graphically although I also read from a games programmer that the PS3 has much more potential in the long run but programming games onto it is harder so we are getting XBOX conversions.
Dont know if its true,its just what i read.
I have pros and cons for both machines.
Ps3 for me has better controllers,because im used to playstations.Ive also heard they are a quieter machine, they have the bluray technology and could be a better machine in the long run.
The 360 is cheaper and get more for the money,Ive heard the graphics edge the ps3(so far) and the online stuff is better,although i never really use this. Plus there are a wider range of games too.
Which do i buy for the long run and long term potential?
The only thing swaying me to the PS3 is that im more of a Gran turismo fan than a halo fan.
Im looking LONG TERM not now!!!! Help!!!Otherwise I may as well wait for the PS4 and the XBOX 720!!lol
Thanks for the answers although Troy’s isnt actually correct as ive heard on several occasions that the graphics are slightly superior on the 360.
If I was to compare the 360 to the ps3 it would have to be the XBOX elite not the 20gb version otherwise I would choose the ps3 everytime.

I am thinking of getting one for Christmas but the red lights scare me from buying it. Will the xbox 360 live for at least 2 years. Or will it just die. What is the failure rate because i heard that it is around 10% but that was about 1-2 months ago.

1.is it reliable when i buy it on Christmas
2.What is the failure rate for it and how to notice it
3.Is is really fun and awesome.
4.and up to how many minutes-hours can i play with it.
5.WILL XBOX LIVE EVER BE FREE or will it still cost money

I had a job last year and have 1 thousand dollars left. I have planned on buying a psp 3000 with two games and and a 1 gb sd card bundle package for 199.99 CAD. So I will have a few hundred left after buying that. Plus I also want a xbox 360 but I do you guys think I should wait for the xbox 720 because if I buy and xbox 360 and invest all my money into it there is no garantee I will have enough money next year.

Story of my life has been that as soon as I get something, something better always comes out.
Like I get a phone, out comes a new one I wish I had.
So, I want an Xbox 360 for a Christmas present, but I heard about the 720 or whichever.
Will this come out soon after and everyone convert to that? Do you know a date for it? Should I get money and save for it?

does anyone know about a new xbox console? im not sure, but from what i have learned i think they might be making an xbox 720. does anyone know enough to confirm this or prove me wrong? (trust me, i am wrong quite a bit, so it wont hurt my feelings if you tell me i’m wrong.
